Gingerbreads to spice up your holidays

Elisen Lebkuchen (Soft Gingerbread) gluten-free, and gluten-free & vegan option available

Growing up near the gingerbread capital Nuremberg, in the south of Germany, my family and I would visit the Nuremberg Christmas Market every year and indulge in delicious Elisenlebkuchen (soft naturally gluten-free Gingerbread), honey cakes, and domino cubes. Only years later, when my dad moved to the city of Aachen, I tasted a very different kind of Lebkuchen, the ‘Printen’, only produced in Aachen. Being a true Elisenlebkuchen follower, I was very skeptical at first, only the Elisenlebkuchen were the real deal. But after tasting the Printen, I was easily convinced—simply delicious!

Run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I am the gingerbread man! I encountered the Gingerbread Folks first in England and fell in love with yet another type of Lebkuchen.

Last but not least the Pfeffernüsse. I only really got to know them after moving to Canada when customers at the various Christmas markets, where I sold my goods, were asking for Pfeffernüsse. I did some research and found the wonderful recipe that I have been baking ever since.

There are so many other types of gingerbreads out there, the Swiss have the Basel Honey Cakes, the Swedes have their Pepparkakor, the Polish have Piernik, the Dutch Speculaas, there are so many different kinds.

So much to explore and so much gingerbread to indulge in! We offer a variety of gingerbreads for all of you gingerbread lovers out there.
